About Twitch
Twitch is a U.S. live-streaming platform that launched in June 2011 as a service focused initially on gaming. It grew out of the earlier Justin.tv project and developed into a major platform for live creator broadcasts, esports, conversation, music and other interactive formats.
Amazon announced an agreement to acquire Twitch in August 2014 for approximately $970 million in cash, and Twitch’s own corporate history describes the company as becoming a wholly owned Amazon subsidiary. Current Twitch legal notices likewise identify Twitch Interactive, Inc. and its affiliates as Amazon subsidiaries.
