Desiree Cousteau is an American former performer and actress whose career is defined by her place in the late-1970s Golden Age of adult film. Born Deborah Clearbranch on January 1, 1956, in Savannah, Georgia, United States, she also worked under the names Desiree Costeau, Deseree Cousteau, and Danielle Hunnee. Before entering adult production, she appeared in the mainstream exploitation feature Caged Heat in 1974. Her adult-film career start is dated to 1978, the year of Pretty Peaches, while Caged Heat remains a 1974 mainstream credit that preceded it.
Her adult-film breakthrough came in 1978 with Alex de Renzy's Pretty Peaches. The Adult Film Association of America named her Best Actress for that film at its 1979 awards. In 1979, she appeared in Inside Desiree Cousteau, a pseudo-autobiographical Golden Age feature centered on her. Both Pretty Peaches and Inside Desiree Cousteau are feature films, and both are central to her known body of work.
Her later industry recognition arrived through induction into the XRCO Hall of Fame in 1993 and the AVN Hall of Fame in 1997. The 1993 XRCO induction and the 1997 AVN induction are separate honors from two adult-film organizations. Those honors followed her 1979 AFAA award by more than a decade. Cousteau's career thus moved from a 1974 mainstream film appearance to a 1978 adult-film breakthrough, a 1979 acting award, and hall-of-fame recognition in 1993 and 1997.
