Dorothy LeMay was an American former performer and actress whose career centered on Golden Age adult cinema. Born Dorothy Staton Alder on February 14, 1954, in the United States, she was working at the University of California, Berkeley in 1976 when she answered an advertisement that led her toward adult-film work. That response preceded the start of her professional adult-film period, which began in 1977 and continued through 1987, covering the late 1970s and early 1980s. Her work as a performer and actress was central to that career.
During that period she became a recognizable Golden Age performer. Her credits include Nightdreams, Taboo II and Memphis Cathouse Blues. Nightdreams, a 1981 feature film, was among her best-known early-1980s credits. Taboo II, a 1982 feature film, followed and included her role as Sherry McBride. These titles formed part of the major feature roles of her 1981-1982 period, and her work in them helped define her place within Golden Age adult cinema.
She also worked under several stage names and variant spellings, including Dorothy Le May, Dorothy Lamay, Norma Gene, Desiree Loy and Laurie Jones. These alternate names appear alongside her primary professional name, Dorothy LeMay. Later recognition came with induction into the AVN Hall of Fame. That induction recognized her career and followed her active adult-film period, which is dated from 1977 to 1987.
